When you export an animated Flexitive design as a GIF or an MP4 video, you can choose the frame rate of the exported file. This article explains how to set the frame rate and which options are available for each export format.

What Is Frame Rate?

Frame rate is the number of frames (still images) shown per second of animation, measured in frames per second (fps). A higher frame rate produces smoother motion but a larger file. A lower frame rate produces a smaller file, but motion may look less smooth.

Setting the Frame Rate

Setting the frame rate for your GIF or Video export is done in the export prior to exporting the design, using the following steps.

  1. Open the Export Panel and click the Fixed tab.
  2. Under the Fixed tab, select GIF or Video MP4 from the Export As options.
  3. Use the frame rate dropdown in the Export Panel to choose your frame rate:
  4. Choose the size you want to export, then click Download File. Files are exported one size at a time.

GIF and MP4 exports are Offline Files and are only available under the Offline Files tab. Learn more about Offline v Live Files.

Frame Rate Options

The available frame rates and the default setting depend on the export format.

MP4 Video3030, 25, 24, 18, 12

Choosing a Frame Rate

  • Keep the default if you're not sure. The defaults (12 for GIF, 30 for MP4) work well for most designs.
  • Choose a higher frame rate for designs with fast or detailed motion that needs to look smooth.
  • Choose a lower frame rate to reduce file size, for example when a GIF is going into an email or a channel with file size limits. Learn more about reducing the size of your exported file.
